A letter from Mel about her trip to Uganda
Hey friends and Violet Mary fans! I (Mel) am going on an African adventure coming up in August! I will be going to work alongside the Ugandan Water Project for two weeks!
Briefly, the Ugandan Water Project builds large rainwater collection tanks attached to the sides of schools, orphanages, community centers and churches to provide clean water for a community. Each tank serves a community of about 100 people for 35 years! Without the tanks, women and children were walking up to 4 miles to retrieve contaminated water from streams and rivers. The tanks save time and energy and provide non-contaminated water for these communities. In addition, the UWP also facilitates small business development, education, health care and sustainable agriculture through its Second Steps program.
I’m excited to get on board with the work going on in Uganda. I’ll get to help out with health care clinics, youth programs, collection tank maintenance and will continue to build on existing relationships with these communities!
If you’d like to help support my trip there are several ways you can get involved! Moral support is always welcome. A kind word of encouragement or, if you’re the praying type, prayers are always needed. If you’re not the wordy type, support can come financially as well. The trip will run $3,500, half of which is needed by June 24th! That’s soon! If you’d like to help send me on my way, you can donate online by clicking on the "Donate" button below. If you’d prefer to write a check, please make the check out to Ugandan Water Project and put my name (Mel Muscarella) in the memo. Checks can be sent to
